Focusing on building bridges across the diverse communities of Chicago, Latin School of Chicago students joined students in the LISTO Afterschool Program at Association House last month for an afternoon of science, learning, and relationship-building at Association House, 2150 W. North Ave. Coming together after three months of preparation to share science projects of their own design, students from both programs taught each other the lessons they have learned in the classroom and beyond.
LISTO showcased experiments in balance, liquid density, and soil erosion, while the Latin School featured experiments with electricity, chromatography, and the ever-popular egg drop, in which teams attempted to create a mechanism that would allow an egg to drop safely from 10 feet to the ground and remain unbroken. The day was a great collaborative effort, with participants having fun, practicing teamwork and learning how to apply science to their daily lives.
Since its founding in 1899, Association House of Chicago has served as a community resource, responding to the changing needs of immigrants living in Chicago's Greater West Town neighborhoods. Association House offers bilingual programs in the arts, child welfare, mental health, education and computer training. In addition, the agency offers residential services and addiction recovery services.
