Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, 836 W. Wellington Ave., will offer comprehensive pediatric and neonatal surgical services through a new partnership with Children's Memorial Hospital, at Fullerton and Lincoln avenues. Illinois Masonic, a Level III (highest level) perinatal center with a neonatal intensive care unit, is a leading provider of care to women with both high risk and normal pregnancies, as well as for their premature and full-term babies. Illinois Masonic, in conjunction with Children's Memorial, will now be one of only two hospitals on Chicago's North Side to perform general to subspecialty pediatric and neonatal surgeries.
Beginning now, pediatric and neonatal surgical services will be available 24 hours, 365 days a year. Board-certified pediatric surgeons will perform general neonatal surgeries at Illinois Masonic and distinctive specialty surgeries at Children's Memorial. The neonatologist, pediatric intensivist, referring pediatrician and pediatric surgeon will determine the appropriate patient care plan.
Only seven out of 33 hospitals in Chicago offer any type of pediatric surgery. "As a leader in obstetric and pediatric care, Illinois Masonic is proud to establish much-needed surgical services for our smallest patients," said Andrew Griffin, M.D., chair of pediatrics at Illinois Masonic.
Over 3,300 babies a year are delivered at Illinois Masonic. In addition, Illinois Masonic treats approximately 600 women with high-risk pregnancies and 400 high-risk infants annually. Illinois Masonic also cares for over 1000 pediatric inpatients each year. Obstetric and gynecological, pediatric, and other family wellness services are available through Illinois Masonic's many primary care and specialty care physician offices and outpatient programs.
Children's Memorial is the market leader in the delivery of pediatric care, treating more than 83,000 children annually and performing more than 13,600 surgical procedures.
