The Chicago Department on Aging will present Smart Choices For A Healthy Lifestyle, an annual conference for senior citizens. One thousand Chicagoans age 60 and older are expected to attend the conference on Thursday, May 22, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the McCormick Place-South, 2301 S. Lake Shore Dr.
The Citywide Senior Citizens Conference will feature guest speakers, a luncheon, workshops, entertainment and resource fair. An added attraction will be the Pharmaceutical Assistance Center where senior citizens will receive information about prescription drugs, Medicare and supplemental insurance.
Local area pharmacists will also be available to give individual consultation on prescription drugs. The Assistance Center will also offer confidential screens for more than 1,000 federal, state and city entitlement benefits through the Red Tape Cutters Program.
Senior citizens are encouraged to attend workshops on topics of health care that include: Talking with Healthcare Professionals; Shopping Smart for Prescription Drugs; Drug and Alternative Therapies: Easing The Pain In Your Knees and Hips; and Joyful Living.
The Citywide Senior Citizens Conference will also feature entertainment by Horace Smith Rhythm and Blues Band and the Latin Rhythms with Francisco Rocha.
