The Spring City Antiques Show returns May 30-June 1
|
Presenting a new direction in urban antique shows, the Spring City Antiques Show (CAS) will showcase an exciting mixture of furniture, objects and art that ranges from the rustic to the refined. The second annual event will feature dealers who specialize in 19th and 20th century furniture and decorative arts, mid-century Modernism, ethnographic and folk art, textiles, paintings, prints and photography. The CAS will take place May 30 through June 1, in a contemporary warehouse at 1418 N. Kingsbury St., on the Chicago River in the Goose Island corridor.
Formal and country furniture from the early 20th century will be displayed along side mid-century Modernism and early industrial design, American folk art, including a collection of African-American quilts, ethnographic artifacts from North and South America, architectural and garden elements and one-of-a-kind objects.
The CAS will also feature a special exhibition of Bes Ben Hats, showcasing the artistry of Ben Greenfield, "mad hatter to the world." A true Chicago treasure, Bes Ben couture hats were sold from his Michigan Ave. store from the 1930's to the 1960's, and were worn by the grand dames of Chicago and the world. Collected over a 25-year period, this unique exhibition will include many examples of the innovative milliner over the course of his long and famous career.
The Spring City Antiques Show is produced by Thomas Blackman Associates (TBA), producers of Art Chicago and The San Francisco International Art Exposition. The sophisticated production within a Chicago warehouse setting allow the dealers to display in a highly visual and creative manner, creating an exposition that appeals to an audience of young and established collectors of both art and antiques.
Show dates and hours are: Friday, May 30, opening night preview from 5 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The opening night preview admission is $35 and will include music, wine and hors d'oeuvres. Saturday and Sunday admission will be $10. A small café will be offering a selection of light fare, beverages and desserts.
Accessible street parking is available. For more information, call Thomas Blackman Associates at (312) 587-3300 or visit www.cityantiquesshow.com.
