Grant awarded for improvements to early childhood center

The Mid-North Association, a non profit neighborhood organization, recently awarded a $15,000 grant which will be used to make physical improvements to the early childhood center located in the Lincoln Park Cultural Center at 2045 N. Lincoln Park West. The grant, which was awarded to the Lincoln Park Parents Association, will be used to construct a new fire exit, a two-way intercom system, child safe flooring and other safety measures. The grant will also go toward the construction of a "quiet" learning center and an age-appropriate bathroom.
Mayor Richard M. Daley recently toured the early childhood learning center and praised the Mid-North Association for its financial support of the project, noting that such commitment to enhancing a community educational program set an example to other grassroots organizations to do the same in their own city neighborhoods.
Construction is expected to begin in early summer and will be completed by mid-September when classes will resume for children ages two through five. Upon completion, the center will be renamed The Mid-North Early Childhood Center.
Grant funds from the Mid-North Association will be paired with funds raised by the Lincoln Park Parents Association to pay for the construction project. The Lincoln Park Parents Association is a non-profit organization which was formed to provide funding, supplies and volunteers to support the early childhood programs offered by the Chicago Park District at the Lincoln Park Cultural Center. During each Park District session 200 early childhood program spaces at the Lincoln Park Cultural Center are filled with preschoolers.
