Albertina Semrad of Edgewater turns 107!

Albertina Semrad
In the season where many are busy honoring graduations and weddings, one Edgewater resident celebrated a milestone that few others reach last week.
Albertina Semrad, a resident of the Admiral Retirement Community, 909 W. Foster Ave., turned 107 on May 30.
Semrad has lived at the Admiral since 1978. She is the oldest living graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received her degree in 1918. She later worked as a writer, publishing a children's book entitled "The Zoo" in 1951.
She said she does not know the cause of her longevity. "I would like to know too, because I have no idea," she said. "It just happens accidentally. It isn't as much fun as people think; it's pretty serious."
Admiral resident Thomas Butt, 85, said Semrad's continued energy and spirit
are remarkable. "She's got a very good memory," Butt said. "And she gets up every day and goes out there and eats."
Semrad said she hopes to continue living as active a life as possible as long as she can.
"I enjoy everything," she said.
