Little City artist chosen for juried exhibition

The work of Palatine resident Patty Kelly has been chosen to be part of the second annual Passionate Focus Art Exhibition, which is coordinated by the Catholic Guild for the Blind. This is the second time Kelly's work has been chosen for the juried show. The exhibition will be on display through May at the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St.
Cheryl Megurdichian, Director of Development at the Catholic Guild for the Blind, said of the juried exhibition, "The selection process gives this show integrity. The exhibition is not about arts and crafts. It's about featuring real art by real artists."
Kelly's work is titled "Angels and Cherubs" and consists of 12 three-dimensional figures representing angels and cherubs. With hands outstretched Kelly said, "You can tell the difference because the angels have wings that are [stretched] out and the cherubs have wings that are folded back." This year, there were more than 100 submissions for the exhibition. Of those, 44 were selected by a three person selection committee consisting of an artist, a curator, and an art critic.
Kelly has been receiving services from Little City since 1970. Prior to her arrival she lived at the Michigan State School for the Blind. There, she pursued her art through the ceramic studio. She has been part of the Little City Foundation Studio Arts program for the last 4 years. Kelly's work was last seen at the Chicago Cultural Center in "Coming Together: Little City and Die Schlumper," Little City's first international art exhibition and collaboration.
