A 40-year-old woman lost $100 trying to help an alleged neighbor in the 3300 block of N. Clifton Ave. get to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village on Monday, May 19, at 12:40 p.m.
The victim answered her intercom when her doorbell rang. A man, claiming to be Jimmy Calahan and claiming to be her neighbor, said that his wife was taken to Alexian Brothers because she was pregnant and he needed a ride.
The victim agreed to drive the offender, a white male in his late 20s, 5'8" and 130 lb., with a acne scar on his nose, to Elk Grove Village. As they approached the intersection of Western Ave. and Roscoe St., Calahan said he felt sick. Claiming that he did not want to get sick in the victim's car, he asked for cab fare to Elk Grove Village.
The victim went to an ATM machine in a shopping center and withdrew $100. Calahan hailed a cab and was seated inside when the victim returned with the money.
The cab drove away and the victim went home. Later the next day, she knocked on her neighbor's door to learn the condition of the pregnant wife. The occupant of the apartment was not Jimmy Calahan. No one else in the apartment building knew or have ever seen a Jimmy Calahan.
