Nike Battlegrounds, coming to the North Side of Chicago in a few days, is a national one-on-one basketball tournament with stops in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York and Chicago, with a National Finals in New York in early August. The event features Chicago's top streetballers providing center-stage entertainment for thousands attending this hip hop party and streetball competition in Seward Park.
This year's Chicago Champion will own the right to say he is the King of the Courts in Chicago; designate the benefactor of a donation from NIKE to a local charity; and win $10,000, an iced-out medallion, a one-year NIKE gear contract, a crown trophy and a billboard of their likeness over a local court. Nike Battlegrounds is a free celebration of the streetball, music, dance, art, fashion and cars that embody the Hip Hop culture and is a "must-attend" for anyone seeking a glimpse into this ever-growing force in American popular culture.
The event takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2, at 7 p.m. The event is free, but tickets must be secured in advance from Athlete's Foot, City Sports (select locations) and Niketown Chicago.
Seward Park is located at 375 West Elm St., at the intersection of Orleans and Division streets. See the top eight streetballers in the greater Chicago area, hot Hip Hop acts and NBA stars, DJ Kid Capri, Keith Murray, Cassidy and former NBA-Star John Salley.
