This month, the Chicago Historical Society throws open its doors to teens for Teen Chicago Steps Out. The August 13th program will feature the city's best teen dancers, musicians, and poets, gathered together in a multicultural celebration of growing up in the city of Chicago.
Open to all Chicago-area teens, this free event will have teens dancing to live music from local area bands, learning international dance steps from many of the area's international dance companies and also lending their voices to history. As part of CHS' Teen Chicago, an oral history project that focuses on the topic of growing up in Chicago in the 20th century, this program also includes hip-hop workshops, spoken-word performances, a cheer squad performance, and free refreshments from Connie's Pizza and Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
Mark your calendars now for Tuesday, Sept. 19, when CHS hosts a panel of Civil War experts at a roundtable discussion of the Civil War's continued impact on modern society. On Saturday, Sept. 27, CHS will present its popular annual Civil War History Day, featuring a symposium and re-enactment.
