On Sunday, Sept. 14, hundreds of children and families will come together to raise awareness for neuromuscular disease by taking part in MDA's Moving for Muscles Great Walk.
Rain or shine, teams of walkers will step out at Lincoln Park (Diversey/Lakefront) to salute the community's efforts to advance MDA's life-saving mission. Many will be walking in support and memory of friends and family members affected by neuromuscular disease. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome at MDA's Moving for Muscles Great Walk. The 5K will kick off at 11 a.m. with registration beginning at 10 a.m.
Proceeds from the walk will directly benefit the Association's Chicago District, which serves more than 1,000 clients and their families locally throughout Cook County. Funds raised at the Great Walk will provide services such as diagnostic testing, assistance with the purchase of wheelchairs and leg braces, clinic visits, therapy sessions and summer camp for those affected by one of the 43 different neuromuscular diseases. They will also help MDA come closer to its mission of defeating neuromuscular disease. Proud sponsors include the Chicago Tribune, The River 95.9 and Olive Garden, who will be providing lunch.
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. In addition to funding groundbreaking research, MDA maintains some 230 hospital-affiliated clinics that offer families the best care in progressive neuromuscular diseases.
All participants must be registered. For more information call (312) 254-0632 or e-mail chicagodistrict@mdausa.org.
