JUF's Young Leadership Division plans

The Jewish United Fund's Young Leadership Division is holding a summer block party for Jewish singles, families and couples on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 1 until 5 p.m. outside of A. Finkl and Sons Co., 2000 N. Southport Ave.
This annual YLD Jewish community summer party typically draws hundreds of young people. It will feature live music by the group Underwater People, refreshments, Israeli and American artisans, face painting, balloon artists, clowns and a special performance by Joel Frankel for kids. Children's activities and entertainment will be from 1-4 p.m.
JUF's Young Leadership Division is asking participants to bring an old cellular phone to donate to SHALVA, a JUF-supported organization that increases awareness of domestic abuse in the Jewish community and provides services for Jewish families experiencing abuse. SHALVA is collecting the phones to refurbish for use by women in need and to sell to help fund services for abused women. Some of these phones are distributed free of charge and can be distributed as part of a safety plan for women to have immediate access to police as needed.
The cost of the party is $10 per person with advance registration, $15 at the event, which is not tax deductible. Children under age 12 are free. Kosher food and refreshments will be sold.
YLD event co-chairs are Howard Dakoff of River North, Joshua Isenberg of West Town and Debbie Trob of Lake View. To make reservations or get more information, call Jennifer Noparstak of YLD at (312) 357-4923, e-mail YLD@juf.org or register at juf.org. Online registration will close on Friday, Aug. 22, at noon.
The Young Leadership Division supports the Jewish United Fund Annual Campaign, which funds essential social welfare, education and relief programs for 300,000 Chicagoans of all faiths and 2,000,000 Jews worldwide. YLD also supports the JUF's Israel Emergency Campaign, a special, second-line campaign to help meet the dire emergency needs of the State of Israel.
