Step Out to Stop Abuse, a 5K walk that brings public attention to the issue of domestic violence, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at Grant Park's Museum Campus, Columbus Dr. and Roosevelt Rd.
Proceeds from this 12th annual event will benefit eight partner agencies that serve as advocates for victims of domestic abuse. They are: Apna Ghar; Chicago Abused Women Coalition (CAWC); Constance Morris House; Friends of Battered Women and Their Children; Rainbow House; Sarah's Inn; South Suburban Family Shelter; and The Women's Program of Heartland Alliance.
The minimum pledge to participate in the event is $30. The first 1,000 participants will receive a T-shirt.
In addition, a post-event raffle ($5 per ticket) will be held for two domestic round-trip tickets on American Airlines.
