Police seek offender in brutal battery

Offender wanted for battery
The incident took place at an artists warehouse in the 4200 block of N. Honore St. on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The victim told a colleague that she was going upstairs to work alone in an artist studio. As she walked up the stairs she saw the offender standing in a small group of people and he appeared to be listening to her conversation.
A black male with a muscular build, in his 40s, 6' to 6'4", with neatly trimmed hair and a goatee wearing a black beret, dark pants, and a yellow polo shirt is wanted for the brutal battery of a 41-year-old female.
As the victim approached her workspace she saw the offender again. "What are you doing here, are you an artist?" she asked. "Yes, I work across the hall," the offender said.
The victim went to work on her sculpture. The offender approached her from behind wielding a knife. "Don't move or I'll kill you," he said. He grabbed her by the throat and began to beat her. He picked up pieces of wood and sculpture and continued to beat the victim. He interrupted his attack to take the victim's wallet containing $10. Then the offender left the room for a moment and appeared to be removing his pants.
The victim saw her opportunity to escape. She ran out of the room, down the stairs, and out of the building and continued to run until collapsing in a backyard in the 4700 block of N. Wolcott Ave.
When police arrived, the victim was lying on the ground, surrounded by residents who had come to her aid. Her face and arms were covered with blood. She was treated for multiple lacerations on her head and severe swelling of the face and was listed in serious condition at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
