Chamber to unite community through auction, singles

Over the course of the last three years, not-for-profit agencies have collapsed at an alarming rate. The Lakeview Chamber Charities is determined not to let that happen to three local organizations by raising funds through its Auction With A Vision Saturday, Sept. 20, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at John Barleycorn's, 3524 N. Clark St., benefiting Lakeview Shelter, Lakeview Pantry and the Counseling Center of Lake View.
The benefit was created to assist the charitable arm of the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce make larger contributions to local not-for-profits. In doing so, local organizations that have seen a decrease in support, but an increase in need, will be able to continue providing the programming that is specific to their missions.
"The Chamber is dedicated not only to our local businesses, but to the organizations providing key social services for many residents," said Heather Way, executive director of Lakeview Chamber of Commerce. "The creation of Lakeview Chamber Charities has made it possible for us to better support the organizations that feed, shelter and assist those in who benefit from various social services."
The evening includes a live acoustic set by Trippin' Billies, a silent auction, food, beverages, local celebrity guests and a live auction featuring some of the area's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.
Items from Tiffany & Co., Charlie Trotter's, Broadway in Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Arlington Race Track are among hundreds that will be available in the silent auction. Tickets are available now for $80 and $100 at the door.
"We wanted this event to appeal to a variety of business owners and residents," said Way. "It has ultimately become the ideal vehicle for us to bring the community together in one place, for one purpose. It is truly a unique opportunity."
