Chicago International Film Festival Casts New Light

The Chicago International Film Festival, Oct. 2 - 16, is especially focused on discovery of new directorial talent, special presentations and Chicago directors (see schedule for "Dark," "Empathy" and "Threads"). This year's festival has 139 films from 40 countries, with an emphasis on films from the Balkans. The Critic's Choice, Oct. 8, at the Music Box Theater, will be a live performance during 1922 silent classic, "I Was Born, But . . .," by Midori Sawato, recognized as the world's leading Japanese benshi (film interpretation) performer.
