Before there was Hollywood, Chicago was a major force in film production with most of the action taking place at Uptown's Essanay Studios on Argyle Street. The Uptown Historical Society invites you to join noted film historian and author Arnie Bernstein for a look back on the history of filmmaking in Uptown from the 1920s to today. The program will feature numerous clips from movies that put Uptown on the silver screen, from Charlie Chaplin to Chuck Norris to Ben Stiller—including the explosion that leveled the Green Mill.
The event takes place Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Harry S Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson Ave., Room 1925. Admission is $8, tickets available at the door, or register with a credit card in advance by calling (773) 907-4440 or (773) 907-4442 (please reference course number 743-7001 SC-PER). |
