More than just a pothole
At 4 a.m. Sunday, a 36" water main on Clark St. between Lincoln Ave. and Wisconsin St. burst, flooding the street and forcing sand and debris across the way. Among the buildings deluged were the Hemingway House, Days Inn and Louie's Bar & Grill. The pipe, expected to last 100 years, was only 30 years old; the city is analyzing the pipe to determine why it failed. The pipe is being replaced and the hole filled in so that ordinary traffic can resume by Saturday.
