Deaf Bailiwick Artists present Deaf Friday Night

Ron Jiu directs Deaf Bailiwick Artists (DBA) in an evening of late-night comedy and improv fun. The concept is part vaudeville show and part sketch comedy, following in the path of Saturday Night Live and Second City. A troupe of several improvisational actors will contribute and perform a variety of shows including deaf folktales, pantomime skits, poetry, and improvised outrageous sketches with impersonators and other talents.
Deaf Friday Night opens Friday, Dec. 19, at 10:30 p.m. at Bailiwick Arts Center, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. Additional performances are Jan. 16 and Feb. 20 at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $10; call the box office at (773) 883-1090, or visit bailiwick.org. Email questions to Ron Jiu at dbailiwick@yahoo.com.
Drucie Ronchen—best known as Gertrude in the previous DBA production "Hamlet Dreams"—will join the rest of the ensemble players, who are Cizzy Boggan, Minnie Glazer, Norman Glazer, Ronald Jiu, Maxine Roin and Cherie Saenz.
Deaf Bailiwick Artists has produced several productions since its creation, including "True West," "Oedipus, Who?" and "Hamlet Dreams," in which deaf and hearing actors create a show and use American Sign Language and voice for both deaf and hearing audience. DBA also produced a successful touring production, "A World Of Whys," in the past two years.
