Laura Washington delivers first lecture in new role
Award-winning editor Laura S. Washington (far right) recently delivered her first lecture as DePaul University's Ida B. Wells-Barnett University Professor. Noted journalist John Callaway (second from left) introduced Washington to the standing-room-only crowd comprising faculty, students and visitors to the university. Also in attendance were: Jacqueline Taylor (left), director of the university's Humanities Center, and Michael L. Mezey (right), dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Washington's lecture focused on the media's reluctance to tackle the issue of race.
