The Chicago Mid-North Association and Mayor Daley have recognized the Belden Stratford, a classic Chicago landmark building in Lincoln Park, for its architectural and historical significance to the neighborhood. Built in the 1920s, The Belden Stratford is an apartment hotel, which is listed in the National Register of historic places.
The Belden Stratford was specifically cited for its elaborate lighting system along the top of the building, that shows off the classical French arches on the building's mansard roofs. The lighting highlights the elegant multi-colored terra cotta detailing of the architecture of this period.
The result is a tasteful and impressive lighting display that can be seen along the lakefront from downtown all the way north to Fullerton Avenue. It is especially attractive when viewed from Lake Shore Drive.
Irmco Properties, the management company for the Belden-Stratford, has received acclaim for revitalizing classic vintage buildings along the lakefront. They also manage several other vintage buildings from Loyola on the North Side to Hyde Park on the South. These include the Seneca at 200 E. Chestnut St., The Sovereign at 1040 W. Granville Ave., the Flamingo at 5500 South Shore Dr., and the Versailles at 5254 S. Dorchester Ave. in Hyde Park. |
