Learn about options in choosing a public school February 23

Are Chicago Public Schools really an option for my child? Just what is a magnet school, anyway? Can my neighborhood public school really meet my child’s needs? How does my local public school compare to others?
If you are the parent of a preschool age child, live in the city, and struggle with questions like these, come to the second Education on Education Town Hall Meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, at Audubon Elementary School, 3500 N. Hoyne Ave. (entrance on Hoyne Ave.), from 7 to 9 p.m.
The opening presentation will feature Mary Ellen Caron, Special Assistant to Chicago Public Schools’ CEO, Arne Duncan, and newly appointed Commissioner of the City Department of Children and Youth Services. Ms. Caron is the founder and former Executive Director of Frances Xavier Warde School. Charles Rego, General Counsel for United Labs, will also open the meeting with information about partnerships between schools, communities, and businesses.
Immediately following will be four concurrent breakout sessions: Magnet vs. Magnet Cluster (What's the difference?); A Comparative Study of Neighborhood Schools; Differentiation in the Classroom (How do teachers balance the varied aptitudes of children in the same classroom?); and School Funding (Where does the money come from and who determines how it's spent?).
This event is sponsored by the Roscoe Village Education Coalition, a committee of Roscoe Village Neighbors, and is free to the public. Refreshments will be served.
