Congressman Rahm Emanuel will hold a news conference on Friday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. to announce federal funding for continued operation of the Lincoln Park Area Museum Trolleys. With this funding, the trolleys will be able to increase service and routes from Michigan Avenue attractions to museums in Lincoln Park. The news conference will take place in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum Lobby, 2430 N. Cannon Dr.
Lincoln Park is one of Chicago's most popular and congested areas. A busy residential area, the neighborhood is also home to the world famous Lincoln Park Zoo and the Chicago Historical Society, two popular attractions. The addition of the heavily visited Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in 1999 and its location in proximity to Chicago's lakefront and beaches increased the congestion. By running clean fuel trolleys between the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Chicago Historical Society, and the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and downtown Chicago, as well as other cultural institutions, fewer cars travel the neighborhood, ultimately improving traffic flow and reducing air pollution. This project is intended to benefit the Lincoln Park neighborhood and the entire City of Chicago. |
