Faulty plan: Woman to restrain victim, man to flee

A strong-arm robbery at 3:01 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, led to the arrest of Reginald Webb, 33, and Linda Vaicilis , 48, both of the same address in the 5900 block of N. Ravenswood Ave. Officers responded to a call of a robbery on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Upon arrival, they spoke to the victim, a 52-year-old bricklayer, who was holding offender #2, the woman.
The victim related that he had been walking eastbound on Bryn Mawr Ave. when offender #1, the man, walking westbound, pushed him with his shoulder causing him to fall to the ground. While the bricklayer was on the ground, offender #1 took the victim’s wallet from the back pocket. The woman held down the victim to give the first offender a chance to flee. However, the bricklayer was able to grab the woman and hold her until police arrived two minutes later.
While one officer recorded information from the victim, the second officer recognized the female offender from prior contact. This officer realized that the description of offender #1 matched a subject known to reside with the female offender. During the course of the interview, the woman agreed to sign a consent for a search of her apartment.
Several officers arrived at that address and knocked at the door. An occupant opened the door and permitted the officers to enter. Two males were found in a living room, and a third in a bedroom. When asked if anyone else was in the apartment, the occupants stated there was a fourth.
Officers entered another bedroom and noticed someone moving under a pile of clothes in a closet. The subject was taken into custody and later identified by the victim as offender #1. The wallet was found hidden in a clothes basket directly outside the bedroom in which the offender was located.
Both offenders were charged with strong arm robbery.
