A new, 14,000 sq. ft. library, complete with $400,000 of brand new books, is now open at 5630 N. Lincoln Ave, the corner of Bryn Mawr and Lincoln avenues. Known as the Budlong Woods Branch Library, the facility includes a community meeting room with 120 seats and provides books and programs to a previously underserved area. The library serves seven elementary schools and one high school. The architect is Joan Jackson; the library is totally compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The library serves readers of all ages and has collections in Korean and Spanish. Free Internet access is available and there are special children’s computers with education software. A teacher is on duty in the library. Books on tape and CD are also available. Free parking is available.
A Book Discussion Club meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Another special feature is the Blooming Branches series presented at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month, in conjunction with the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Master Gardeners of the University of Illinois extension.
