The 140-voice Apollo Chorus of Chicago will present its annual Cathedral Concerts in February, under the direction of Stephen Alltop, Music Director and Conductor. "Of Kings & Poets" will feature music of royal beauty, regal lyricism and heavenly glory, with works extolling the Heavenly King and earthly coronations by Daniel Gawthrop, George Frederic Handel, Morten Lauridsen, Randall Thompson, Eric Whitacre and David Willcocks. The Chorus will be accompanied by David Bachmann, Apollo's Assistant Conductor, and a string ensemble.
Apollo's Cathedral Concerts move to new Chicago locations this year in two historic churches: St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 2226 N. Hoyne Ave., on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m., and Fourth Presbyterian Church at N. Michigan Ave. and Delaware Pl., on Sunday, Feb. 29, at 3 p.m.
Tickets (general seating) are available for $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Ticket orders may be placed by calling the Apollo Chorus office at (312) 427-5620.
"The music of this program contrasts royal splendor and lyrical beauty. It will be very exciting to experience these selections in spaces such as St. Hedwig's and Fourth Presbyterian," says Stephen Alltop, Music Director.
