The Children's Research Center at Children's Memorial Hospital, 2430 N. Halsted St., unveiled its newly expanded research facility last week. Illinois' First Lady Patti Blagojevich and Congressman Rahm Emanuel hoisted a pair of giant scissors and cut the ribbon to officially open the new addition to the Children's Research Center. Renowned cancer biologist Mary J. C. Hendrix, PhD, who was recently appointed as the new president and scientific director of the Children's Memorial Institute of Education and Research, addressed the attendees. The 52,000-square-foot expansion to the Children's Research Center nearly doubles the space available and will accommodate more than 325 scientists and staff members.
