'Start Up! Chicago' helps businesses

The Lincoln Park Business Development Institute (LPBDI) and DePaul University's Entrepreneurship Program announce the offering of two new sessions of their business start-up course that helps people plan and launch a new business.
Entitled Start Up! Chicago, the 10-week course covers the steps necessary to start a business and develop a business plan for a new venture. The course includes classroom instruction, guest entrepreneurs, technical experts, case studies and business plan assignments.
Start Up! Chicago will have two different sessions. One will be conducted on the Lincoln Park campus of DePaul University, and the other on the Loop campus of DePaul University.
The course at the Lincoln Park campus will be held at the John T. Richardson Library, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave., from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday evenings, April 8 - June 10. Discounted parking will be available at the Clifton Parking Garage, 2330 N. Clifton Ave. The John T. Richardson Library is located one block west of the Fullerton el stop.
Classes at the Loop campus will be held at the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday evenings, April 7 - June 9. Both the Adams/ Wabash and Jackson el stops service the Loop campus.
DePaul University faculty members will teach each course. Guest speakers will include successful entrepreneurs from Chicago and experts in areas such as law, accounting and marketing. The final class will include business plan presentations to a review panel of start-up investors and industry experts.
Start Up! Chicago is a non-credit course targeted to people who have an innovative business idea, are unemployed, are curious about self-employment and/or plan to start a new business. The LPBDI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to stimulating economic and business development through educational seminars and resources. The organization is an affiliate of the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce. DePaul University's Entrepreneurship Program is consistently ranked among the top entrepreneurship programs in the nation. It recently received a $2.5 million gift from the Coleman Foundation to establish an entrepreneurship center at DePaul's Loop campus.
