Rapid Transit Cycle Shop celebrates 10th Anniversary

By Terry Jinks
The 10th Anniversary of Rapid Transit Cycle Shop is being celebrated with the customary anniversary specials on bikes and accessories, but in the community spirit that has given them widespread popularity, the Wicker Park/ Bucktown shop is sponsoring the raffle of a $600 Jamis Tangier bike that is specially designed for urban biking. The raffle proceeds will be given to Chicago Youth Centers.
"We started the shop 10 years ago with the dream of promoting biking as alternative transportation," said Justyna Frank. "My husband, Chris Stodder, and I wanted to help create a more environmentally friendly place to live. After many years of seeing the neighborhoods become more bike accessible and more bikers on the streets, we know we have made a difference and it feels great."
More than any other bike shop in Chicago, they carry full lines of bikes ranging from exotic recumbents to mountain bikes. They were the first bike shop in Chicago to offer folding bikes.
