Tree House, a cageless, no-kill shelter for injured, abandoned, and abused stray cats, will hold its first annual benefit concert, billed as “ An Intimate Evening with Alice Peacock” on Tuesday, April 13, at 8 p.m. at the Mercury Theatre, 3745 N. Southport Ave.
Peacock is the first female Chicago singer-songwriter to be signed to a major label since Liz Phair and has been compared to the likes of Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell. Her upbeat songs feature sweet melodies and catchy rhythms that mix a variety of musical styles and appeal to many musical tastes.
The evening will start off with a complimentary buffet and drinks at the Blue Bayou, 3734 N. Southport Ave. (across the street from the Mercury Theatre), from 6 p.m. until show time. Tree House merchandise will be available for purchase in the lobby before and after the show. Free valet parking will be provided at Blaine School across the street from the theatre on Southport. Proceeds will benefit the programs that Tree House provides for its residents and the community at large.
Tickets cost $30; call (773) 784-5488, ext. 231.
Tree House was founded in 1971 to combat the feline overpopulation problem. Nearly 300 rescued cats call the Tree House home at any given time while waiting to be adopted. Tree House also sponsors a pet food pantry for low-income families, a volunteer animal-assisted therapy program for the infirm and elderly, and an educational outreach program to local schools to educate children on the benefits of a human/ animal relationship. Tree House was also awarded First Place in the Humane Association Awards offered by the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association.
