Following sold-out engagements in London, Paris, Rome, and Sydney, "Slava’s SnowShow" will have its Chicago premiere in a limited two-week engagement at the legendary Chicago Theatre, 175 N State St., beginning Tuesday, April 13. "Slava’s SnowShow" is the inaugural event presented at the Chicago Theatre by TheatreDreams, LLC, the Tony Award- winning entity which took over ownership of the historic venue effective April 1, 2004.
Created and staged by Cirque Du Soleil star and world-famous Russian entertainer Slava Polunin, "Slava’s SnowShow" is a cosmopolitan, yet universally appealing, performance event that has drawn SRO crowds worldwide. The Chicago Theatre run is the show’s only U.S. engagement prior to an anticipated fall Broadway premiere.
“We hope to take the city by storm—by snowstorm, that is—in our first presentation at The Chicago Theatre,” said Larry Wilker, a principal of TheatreDreams Chicago. “Creating a new, intimate environment for 'Slava’s SnowShow,' whereby only the best orchestra seats are used, is just one way TheatreDreams plans to creatively configure space. We have also attempted to make this production accessible for all patrons by deliberately offering affordable, competitively priced tickets.”
The Chicago Theatre, whose 3,600-seat setting will be transformed into an intimate 1,100-seat environment, is host to this magical theatrical experience that juxtaposes comedic performances with unusual special effects. A heart stopping theatre snowstorm finale literally lifts the audience from their seats and leaves them deep in snow. A stunning musical score helps set the mystical tone and, thanks to Slava and his troupe of creative cohorts, audience members will enter a world of interactive imagery, where a bed becomes a boat; a clown boards a train and then becomes a train, his Victorian chimney–top hat billowing smoke; and a web of unspun cotton envelopes the audience.
"Slava’s SnowShow" will be performed at the Chicago Theatre April 13-25. The performance schedule is: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 2 and 5:30 p.m. For tickets ($39.50 to $49.50), call (312) 902-1500. Groups of 10 or more should call (312) 922-2110, ext. 4. For more information, visit thechicagotheatre.com and snowshowusa.com.
