Local residents, SCH doctors, have 'heart to heart' talk Nearly 150 local residents recently gathered at Swedish Covenant Hospital to discuss matters of the heart with a panel of cardiac specialists. The cardiologists and surgeons updated participants on the latest advances in the field, including the importance of screenings for harmful C-reactive protein and homocystine levels. The doctors also urged patients to control associated factors such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Coronary heart disease is the number one killer in America. Ron Curran, MD, says paying attention to the warning signs is critical. "Most heart attacks start slowly with mild pain and discomfort," said Curran. "Often when patients look back at their health, they see warning signs they should have noticed much earlier."
The seminar marked the end of a month-long series of events at Swedish Covenant Hospital to celebrate "Heart Health Month."
