"Eikon" is the inaugural production of The Theatre School of DePaul University's New Playwrights Series, which is intended to be an annual presentation of a new play by a current Theatre School student or recent graduate. "Eikon," by Alex Perry, is directed by Theatre School faculty member Carlos Murillo.
A dying son, a mother unable to let go of the past, a daughter with wanderlust and a young lover forced to commit the ultimate sacrifice all confront life-altering decisions in this poetic exploration of a family facing cataclysmic change. Theatre School alumnus Alex Perry's world premiere play blends Greek mythology with a modern story of struggle, love and hope.
Alex Perry received his B.F.A. in Playwriting from The Theatre School at DePaul University in 2003. His works include "On The Verge Of Breathing," "Open Room" and "Tabs And Borders," all developed and produced at The Theatre School. His newest project is "American Sonata," a play in sonata format exploring the tension between Apollo and Dionysus in America.
Eikon will be performed April 30 through May 9 (previews April 28 and 29), Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
The venue is the Athenaeum Studio Three, 2936 N. Southport Ave. Admission is free. For more information, call (312) 922-1999. A post-show discussion with the cast follows the performance on Thursday, May 6.
