25th anniversary production of 'Bleacher Bums'

"Bleacher Bums," the classic nine-inning comedy dedicated to Chicago Cub fans and the dream that "this is the year" the Cubs will make it back to their field of dreams of a World Series, is returning to Chicago in a special 25th anniversary production —completely updated —featuring Sammy, Kerry, Mark, Dusty, and the rest of the 2004 Chicago Cubs and their counterparts at Wrigley Field —the lovable fans of Wrigley's right field bleachers! Conceived by Joe Mantegna and directed by Jeff Lee, "Bleacher Bums" opens Sunday, April 25, at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted St., with lower-priced previews beginning Tuesday, April 20. For tickets ($31.50 to $44.50), call (312) 988-9000.
"Bleacher Bums" features Gary Sandy as Decker, Diane Dorsey as Rose, Thomas Gebbia as Greg, Michael Andrew Gorman as Marvin, Carrie Hegdahl as Melody, John Librizzi as Zig, Mark Morettini as the Guard, Stephen J. Rose as Richie, and Kevin Stark as the Cheerleader, with Kate Krantz and Rhys Leahy as the youngest "Bums."
Some people say it all started in 1908—the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Others in 1945—the last time the Cubs appeared in a World Series. But the truth is it started in the heart of every Cubs fan since the beginning of time—and more accurately, in the mind of a young and promising actor (and die-hard Cubs fan) named Joseph Mantegna, a member of The Organic Theater Company.
