Work crews begin permanent restoration on Clark St.

Permanent street restoration is getting underway in the 1800 block of N. Clark St. It follows last year's rupture of a 36-inch water main at 1850 N. Clark St. Repair work at the time concluded with temporary restoration and plans to return in the spring.
"The event was in early December, after asphalt plants close for the year," said Richard A. Rice, Commissioner of Water Management. "We have to wait until April for them to re-open, and we want to get this work done before summer traffic arrives in force."
Work crews will restore and pave one half of the street before switching to the other side. In order to keep traffic moving in both directions, parking will be eliminated in the stretch on Clark St. from Lincoln Ave. to Wisconsin St.
"We've informed all residents from LaSalle St. up to Armitage Ave., in order that there be no surprises," Rice said. Ald. Vi Daley (43rd) and the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce are also working with neighbors to ensure everything runs smoothly.
The project is expected to take about a month, depending on the weather and other variables.
