Tragic motorcycle—car collision on Southport
At 7:09 p.m. Monday, June 7, a '98 Dodge Neon was southbound on Southport Ave. at School St. when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign and drove left of center. The Neon struck a Honda Shadow motorcycle driven by a man and carrying a woman, believed to be his wife, as a passenger.
Both the man and the woman were thrown off the motorcycle and pinned between the motorcycle and a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria cab. The woman was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital and pronounced dead at 7:47 p.m. The man was taken to the same hospital where he was in critical but stable condition. The driver of the Neon was taken to Illinois Masonic as a precautionary measure because she is six months pregnant.
