Nuada celebrates Bloomsday

Literary irony will be defined on June 16—or “Bloomsday” as the date is known around the world. It is on this day that James Joyce fans honor the author’s masterpiece, "Ulysses," and retrace a day in the life of Dubliner Leopold Bloom. Nowhere is Bloomsday more celebrated than in Dublin, Ireland, the same city that Joyce declared the “center of paralysis.”
Apparently, the Irish aren’t ones to hold a grudge. While Chicago literary buffs may not be able to drop by Davy Byrne’s Pub on Duke Street for a glass of burgundy just as Bloom did, Joyce fans can rejoice at a contemporary celebration of Bloomsday, courtesy of Nuada—Chicago’s home for contemporary Celtic design and modern Irish culture (www.nuada1.com), located at 1022B W. Armitage Ave.
At 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, Nuada’s free Bloomsday Eve Celebration will bring Leopold and Molly Bloom, Stephen Dedalus, Buck Mulligan and other infamous characters from the novel to life. Nuada’s Bloomsday Eve Celebration—in conjunction with the Irish Repertory Theater—will expose a new audience to the timeless Irish tale, while bringing Bloom’s epic journey a little closer to Joyce enthusiasts.
