Legendary local DJ Derrick Carter is joined by DJ Diz in kicking off the inaugural week of the DJ Series at Chicago SummerDance tonight, June 23, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Spirit of Music Garden, 601 S. Michigan Ave. Now in its eighth season, Chicago SummerDance is expanding the popular program with the addition of the DJ Series that focuses on the ever-growing genre of electronic dance music. This 10-week long Wednesday night series runs June 23 - August 25. Admission is free.
The DJ Series will feature local and international DJs spinning three hours of various styles of electronic dance music including disco, techno, funk and soul, trance, and various styles of locally grown house music. Unlike the other nights of the Chicago SummerDance program, there will be no dance lessons offered on Wednesday evenings. Music and dancing on a 3,500 square foot open-air dance floor will begin at 6:30 and go until 9:30 p.m., weather-permitting.

The eighth annual Chicago SummerDance festival of public dance lessons for all ages and dancing to a variety of live music outdoors runs through Sunday, Aug. 29. The series features one-hour dance lessons followed by two hours of live music and dancing every Thursday-Saturday from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 4-7 p.m., weather permitting. In the event of rain, performance will be canceled for that afternoon or evening. Updates are announced on the Chicago SummerDance hotline. A variety of food and drinks are available for purchase at the SummerDance Grill and seating is available.
