Mayor Daley and well-known actor John Mahoney will be the honorary co-chairmen for the Interfaith House 10th Anniversary Celebration, to be held June 28 at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
"I am pleased to be a part of this celebration for Interfaith," said John Mahoney. " For years, Interfaith has provided a vital service to so many without fanfare. Rather than return people to the streets, Interfaith House gives homeless men and women who are leaving the hospital a welcoming place to heal."
For the benefit, John Mahoney will read selections of poems and prose written by residents who have participated in Interfaith’s writing workshops—one of many rehabilitative services offered at the 64-bed facility at 3456 W. Franklin Blvd.
Mayor Daley attended the opening ceremony for Interfaith House ten years ago. The Mayor enthusiastically lauded the founding of the Midwest’s only place for homeless men and women to heal when leaving the hospital. Today, Interfaith House has more than fulfilled its promise, having served over 5,000 people.
Not only does Interfaith offer residents a place to heal but a place to hope and build a better future. Because of the myriad of services, including medical care, psychological counseling and mentoring, 71 percent of the people who leave Interfaith House move on to safe stable housing.
The event, catered by Wolfgang Puck, will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave. For tickets, please call Interfaith House at (773) 533-6013, ext. 235. Learn more about Interfaith House at InterfaithHouse.org. |
