Mayor Daley has introduced a plan to acquire nearly 20 acres of land along the western edge of Rosehill Cemetery in order to create the West Ridge Nature Preserve. The land, which runs along Western Avenue from Peterson to Balmoral avenues, includes a seven-acre pond that attracts many species of migrant birds.
The City plans to preserve the existing natural features, including the pond and the woods surrounding it. The West Ridge Nature Preserve would be fenced and would contain extensive walking trails and interpretive signage.
“Parks and public open spaces play an important role in residential areas. They are essential building blocks of strong neighborhoods,” Mayor Daley said. “Many neighborhoods have experienced considerable residential growth in recent years, and are currently underserved by parkland. These investments will help improve the quality of life for area residents. |
