Johnny, a 4th grader, has taken his own life by shooting himself in the head. As a suicide note, he leaves a play about the events at his school that led his to his fatal decision. After his death his fellow classmates perform his play as a form of school pageant. The performance, which is reminiscent of 18th century Japanese playwright Chikamatsu Monzeamon, tells of distorted love, insecure bullies, and a rich girl trying to have everything she wants in the world; but mostly shows Johnny’s quest for purity in an impure world.
