See design for new Spertus Institute building at GPAC meeting Monday

The public is invited to attend the Grant Park Advisory Council (GPAC) and the Grant Park Conservancy for a Parkitecture public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, in Daley Bi-Centennial Plaza, 337 E. Randolph St., in Grant Park across from the BlueCross BlueShield Building.
See the first public unveiling of the design for the new Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies building to be built at 610 S. Michigan Ave. ( currently an empty lot) right north of their current building at 618 N. Michigan Ave. Dr. Howard Sulkin, President of the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies and Mark Sexton, of the architectural firm of Krueck and Sexton, will give a presentation on the new building. The building promises to be cutting edge, innovative, interesting, sculptural, full of natural light, and like nothing before it. It will fill in a gap of the Michigan Avenue street wall.
The new building will have enhanced exhibition, library and classroom space, and new features such as:
* a state-of-the-art theater for live performances and film
* the only kosher restaurant in downtown Chicago
* an education center for children, parents and teachers
* a more comprehensive gift shop with street access
* space for community events, cultural festivals and celebrations
* a rooftop garden with spectacular views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan
Parkitecture is a popular series of symposia about architecture and design in and around Grant Park featuring panel discussions involving an array of prominent architects, designers, planners, professors and deans, and city and park district officials. It is about encouraging and supporting the creation of the landmarks of tomorrow, today.
Also at the meeting, see the "State of the Park," a multi-media presentation showing "before and after" photos of Grant Park. For more information, call Bob O'Neill, President, Grant Park Advisory Council and Grant Park Conservancy, at (312) 829-8015 or visit grantparkconservancy.com.
