The 2004-2005 Season marks Concertante di Chicago’s 20th Anniversary, with the season's premier concert, Nord Pas de Calais, on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. at DePaul University Concert Hall, 800 W. Belden Ave.
The orchestra is largely made up of members of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra. Tickets are available at the box office on the day of the concert: $35 adults, $10 students, and $5 for children under 12.
"We try to offer the audience more than an afternoon of fine music. We offer the opportunity for cultural immersion,” said Music Director and Conductor Hilel Kagan.
The spotlight of Nord Pas de Calais will be on the musical and educational excitement being generated at the Lille Conservatory, through the artistry of its composers, wisdom of its music theorists and musical performance of its students. As a cultural epicenter of France and of Europe, Lille has been named as Europe’s Cultural Capital of 2004.
In this opening program, Kagan will present the most recent works of two living French composers, Jacques Deregnaucourt and Marc Lys. Both Deregnaucourt and Lys, as young composers, bring fresh sounds of France to their compositional writing. Both composers remain active performers as well.
Organized in 1985, Concertante di Chicago for 20 years has been presenting programs of excellence in classical music, jazz, opera and chamber works. The featured soloists boast international critical acclaim; the orchestra wins rave reviews.
Concertante di Chicago performances have taken the presentation of classical music in a new direction. Each performance highlights the music of a different culture and concludes with a reception sampling the featured culture’s cuisine. Over the past 20 years, Concertante di Chicago has highlighted cultures from the continents of Europe, Russia, North, Central and South America, and Asia. In doing so, Concertante di Chicago has built friendships with dozens of cultural communities throughout the Chicagoland area.
The concerts are designed to be refreshingly upbeat and include a reception following the concert. For tickets in advance or more information, contact (312) 346 9006 or visit concertantedichicago.org.
