Plundering the library
Library staff haul books out to an awaiting truck Tuesday for removal from the Sulzer Library as empty boxes, center, are unloaded from the same truck for tomorrow’s load. By 11 a.m. over 60 boxes of books were removed. Library sources claim as many as 200 boxes were removed Monday. |
Sorry, we’re out of that
While library staff claim there is great demand for books by Mike Royko, these two were set to be discarded Tuesday. Directly behind them is an English/Arabic version of the Koran, also reportedly in great demand by library users.

How can this be?
Books to be discarded have had their title pages—containing the library system’s bar codes—cut out and are stamped in black ink “DISCARD.” |
Outrage
Ald. Eugene Schulter, left, looks on in shock as he witnesses more books being removed by library staff. The books are destined to be discarded. |
