'State Street Electric Nights!' heat up Loop

Electric nights have come to Chicago’s Downtown State street as the famed street transforms into a sparkling winter display. Running through Feb. 27, the Greater State Street Council presents State Street Electric Nights!, a free “simulated pyrotechnic” display every evening from 4 to 9 p.m. as part of the Chicago Winter Delights: It’s A Cool Place initiative.
Never before seen in downtown Chicago, Fireworks Lighting is the latest in lighting technology. Fireworks Lighting—with bursts of red, green, blue and yellow color—is a realistic, brilliant fireworks simulation minus the actual fireworks but with all the delight.
“State Street Electric Nights! is an excellent way to show that State Street and all of downtown is a live and vibrant place year round,” says Ty Tabing, executive director of the Greater State Street Council. “State Street is home to some of the city’s best theatre, restaurants and hotels in addition to our world-class shopping and cultural activities.”
The greater State Street Council is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1929 to promote economic prosperity within Chicago’s central business district. Council initiatives seek to build upon the retail, hospitality, and cultural and educational prominence of the 34-block area between Dearborn St. and Wabash Ave., stretching north from Congress Pkwy. to the Chicago River.
