Turn winter 'blahs' into winter 'ahhhs'

North Michigan Avenue is illuminated with color and light as The Greater North Michigan Avenue Association (GNMAA) presents the fifth annual Light Nights on the Magnificent Mile through Feb. 27. This free event features a spectacular fireworks show over the Chicago River at Michigan Avenue every Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. Winter gardens are transformed with illuminated sculptures, including “A Family Vacation,” “Harry Caray’s ‘Holy Cow’” and “Diamonds and Pearls,” from the Chicago River to Oak Street. The weekly fireworks and luminous sculptures complement “lighter” prices and “lighter” crowds at favorite shopping, dining, hotel and entertainment venues in The Magnificent Mile district.
The signature one-million tree lights on The Magnificent Mile continue to shine as dramatic lighting further enhances the experience. Every Saturday evening, Pioneer Court at 401 N. Michigan Avenue offers the best fireworks viewing, free holographic fireworks viewing glasses, themed music and family fun. Enjoy themed activities throughout The Magnificent Mile district during Clown Around Town Circus Arts on Saturday, Feb. 5; and Let’s Dance Weekend on Saturday, Feb. 26. That evening, witness a remarkable fireworks show choreographed to live music from fig media inc. in Pioneer Court.
In addition to the lighting extravaganza, a number of “light” price and “light” crowd incentives will encourage winter visitors to enjoy all that The Magnificent Mile has to offer. Shop at Westfield North Bridge and enjoy an enticing mix of 50 world-class specialty shops. Dine at The Signature Room at the 95th located atop the John Hancock Center and take in the postcard-perfect Chicago view. Spend the night at one of six Marriott Chicago Downtown Hotels and take advantage of special Light Nights offers. Shop, dine and stay in The Magnificent Mile District all winter long.
