Free concerts are presented in the Saint James Chapel of Archbishop Quigley on the Second Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. The "Second Saturday at Two" concerts are presented as a gift to the community from the artists. No tickets or reservations are needed. The concert is preceded by a free docent tour of Saint James Chapel beginning at noon.
Upcoming concerts include Dec. 11: Loyola Academy Ensemble; Jan. 8: Ars Antigua-Jerry Fuller, director (arsantigua.net); Feb. 12: Teresa Ludden, dramatic soprano, & Jeffery Panko, piano; and March 12: Ars Antigua-Jerry Fuller, director (arsantigua.net).
These concerts are sponsored by "The Friends of the Windows," a group of Chicagoans from many faiths and backgrounds who have launched a campaign to save and restore the glorious stained glass windows of Quigley's Saint James Chapel. Modeled after Sainte Chapelle in Paris, this treasure has been called the "crown jewel of Chicago's architecture." The Chapel's Rose Window has been beautifully restored, and restoration continues on the Chapel's nave windows, made possible through numerous donations and fund raising events. Tours take place every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between noon and 2 p.m.
