Lane Tech grad commissioned as a second lieutenant

Lakeisha T. Villanueva has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) Leadership Development and Assessment course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, WA, and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Fayetteville State University, NC.
During the four-week course, cadets encountered physical and mental obstacles which challenged them as a person, soldier and leader. Cadets attend the training normally between their third and fourth years of college. The tough and stressful training covered basic military skills that are needed for the tactical exercises at individual and squad levels. Platoon competition develops collective cohesion from individual performance as the cadets are evaluated for their leadership potential to serve as commissioned officers. The curriculum contained intensive military leadership instruction and evaluation exercises in communications, management, and survival training.
She is the daughter of Lynda A. Jackson of N. Hoyne Ave. Her husband, Karl, is the son of Karl E. Villanueva and Yvoone Martinez, both of N. Bosworth Ave. Villanueva graduated in the year 2000 from Lane Tech High School.
