The Super Colon, an 8-foot tall, 20-foot long, replica of a human colon is coming to Chicago this month to educate Chicagoans about the importance of colorectal cancer screening. Colorectal cancer is 90 percent preventable and successfully treated 90 percent of the time, when detected early, yet it continues to be the second leading cancer killer of men and women combined.
The replica is coming to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, 675 N. St. Clair St., 3rd Floor, and will be open to the public Wednesday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Thursday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Super Colon is an "Incredible, Inflatable, Interactive" colon that teaches people about the risks, symptoms, prevention, early detection and treatment options for colorectal cancer. The Super Colon shows people first-hand what colorectal cancer looks like compared to healthy colon tissue, and teaches people about the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer.
