Police Beat

Tragic ending

When co-workers did not hear from Richard Markley, 45, they asked police to do a well-being check on Sunday, Feb. 27. Responding officers rang the bell and got no answer. Neighbors let them into the building, and called the landlord for a pass-key. They then tried the door and found it unlocked. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered the man had been murdered. Police had the body removed, canvassed neighbors, and secured the scene. Richard Markley was a singer for the Lyric Opera. The investigation is continuing.
